Got medical RFE at 485 stage.Here are RFE details :
The civil surgeon's signature on the supplement Form to I-693 submmitted with your application to adjust status is photocopy and is therefore unacceptable.Your original Supplement Form to I-693 is hereby returned to you in the enclosed sealed envelope.Take this letter and your enlclosed Supplemental Form I-693 to the civil surgeon who administered your vaccinations.ONLY THE CIVIL SURGEON SHOULD OPEN THE SEALED ENVELOPE.The civil surgeon must verify that he or she completed the Supplemental Form to I-693 and place it in a sealed envelope before returning it to you.

WOW...its amazing to see how a simple thing (in my opinion) like volunteering can be such a big deal.
While it is legal to work on a L-4 why are H-4s not allowed to work? Beats me!
yes - unfortunately that's how it is. The simple funda is "never work for free". it is a competitive and exploitative world - I have seen so many people working as volunteers coming as contractors for 2 months , 3 months work - they get hired by unscrupulous managers who want to get work done for free. They are promised employment after 3 months contract and all sweet words ... this happens in big companies too - they will use and throw you to keep their job. Many a time they may not even acknowledge that you were there.
Keep looking for a job and work hard towards a job - you will definitely get one.

Its just scary that after all these years they might consider the case abandoned if you don't receive the damn FP letter. Some guys didn't even get the receipts yet. I feel for those...
P.S.: Anybody got the case closed because they missed the FP appointment ? Is there a way to reopen it ?

I did travel back in Dec-Jan to India and back, and just like you we used the AP to re-enter.
I also am working using my EAD and not H1b. And have switched employers using AC-21. I did send in papers to uscis regarding my Ac-21, but none of that really came into play at the washington dc airport.
We weren't asked anything related to our employment - no letters, pay-stubs, etc. All they looked at was the AP and that's it.
I think it is safe to travel for you too. The fact that you have switched employers is completely legal. It might be wise to take the AC-21 memo and old and new pay stubs along with you.

If one transfers H1 after I140 approval, employers should have no reason to withdraw the I140. Unless ofcourse for revenge :)
Right now, a lot of big companies withdraw I140 and reuse the labor for another applicant. With the new law in place, employers have no motivation to withdraw the I140.

Unlike H1B, at the time of layoff, if 485 is pending more than 6 months, you are still in legal status, (in h1b case there is no grace period). There is no time limit to find a similar job. You can stay at home for till your 485 approval, with legal status. Having said that, if INS asks for a eveidence of full time-permanat job you should be in a postion to show the job offer. In simple terms, tou should have a vaild job offer at the time of approval of your 485.
If i-485 has been pending for more than 6 months and I suddenly get laid off can i leave the country and come back when it's approved? Or can I leave the country and come back in a few months with or without job offer?

I don't think its a good time to change jobs. There are many who are looking for a job after getting laid off. I think till the 2nd quarter of 2010 just keep your job. I may be wrong too.
the best thing is to keep a open eye all the time and whenever there is a opening in any big project with a good pay hike then move.
If you have EAD then you don't have to worry about H1B transfer.
If you like, Join the "job networking on IV" google group and you wouls find many members with your similar skillset.
